Let me start by saying that I am in no way endorsing said product. In fact, I'm bashing it.... Well, at least the ad campaign....
So L'Oreal Paris came out with a new mascara and have been running commercials for it. It's called Mega Volume Miss Manga, and they design the ad to mimic the pop culture of Japan, and give the perception of lashes like those in anime. Now, as a book-lover, my jaw hit the floor when I heard the commercial. Take a look for yourself.

Did you hear it? I know all true manga lovers should be cringing at this undoing. For those possibly in the dark, allow me to elaborate.
First off, manga is the Japanese version of graphic novels, or comics if you must, written in the authentic right-to-left reading style, which is backwards to many Western readers. Now, most of the unknowing will pronounce "manga" incorrectly; they will say "may-nga," with a short A sound. Yes, this is not how you say it. It's pronounced "mah-nga," almost like saying "mon" like in Jamaica.
Listen to the ad again. Now you understand! The ad is saying it wrong! A great undoing for those who are new to Japanese pop culture. It makes me wonder how well they understand the target audience.... Apparently not well enough to research the culture! A pink panda and a girl bouncing around does not represent the anime world. Plus it doesn't even look like a great mascara anyway....
Welp, thanks for listening to my ramblings, and sorry for making you watch an ad. Now you are more knowledgeable about Japanese pop culture! I should go to bed....
